  • Finding FOAMGLAS in Midwest

Found FOAMGLAS block in St. Louis, MO.
The setup I decided to go with is:
    1. Small circular tiles sitting on the the hearth to elevate the insulation a little.
    2. Two inches of FOAMGLAS block rated at 900F will sit on top of the tiles as it has great strength and repels water.
    3. Two inches of calcium silicate board rated at 2300 degrees will sit on top of the FOAMGLAS block
    4. Oven floor will sit on top of calcium silicate board
    Purchased from:
Distribution International (they have locations all around the US)

FoamGlas is hard to find now that the main manufacturing plants are in the EU. I used in my build, good compressive strength, K value. It does not have very good shear strength or abrasive resistance. Smells like rotten eggs when you cut it (sulfur in the glass bubbles). PS you do not need to place tiles down since the Foamglas is hydrophobic.
