            Hello Dr,

Which came first, the gamete or the meiosis?

There are 90 insulating kiln bricks and half the firebricks left, about 50 of them. Also, an Indispensible tool for a 30" to 42" diameter Pompeii style oven.

PM me with your contact info and I'll provide my phone number and directions.

            Cheers,
            Bob

              Dr,

There was a posting on Craigslist yesterday for firebricks - 50 for $25 in Queen Creek. The poster said 4x6 but that is not a common size (and phx brick does not make them) The picture shows splits, fwiw.

                Chris,

Thanks for the heads up! I'll check into it this afternoon; I'm headed up to the north side to see Bob today if he has time and pick up any goodies he has left.

                  Dr,

Yep, got everything stacked and ready for you. Between my materials and those in QC you may have enough to make a nice oven.

                  Cheers,
                  Bob

                    Re: Low cost materials

                    Bob,

Hey thanks for the materials and tour of your ovens yesterday! I really apperciated all the advice.

Our wives were talking while you stepped away and mentioned you were thinking about building a Tandoori oven; I've actually planned to build one myself next to the planned 42" pompeii. I'm sure you've seen the link already, but Musa has a pretty good build from a few years ago at: Tandoor Oven Construction Progress

Good luck and post up some pictures when you get started. I'll start a build thread and show you some pictures of my progress once I finish gathering materials.

                    Cheers,
                    Rob

                      DrG.

You are most welcome. It was nice to meet you.

I still have some materials to gather for the tandoor. I'm trying to locate a clay insert or a local ceramist to make one for me. Failing that, I'll get one of the big terracotta pots from HD and generally follow Musa's build.

                      Cheers,
                      Bob

That is too funny as I am considering making a Tandori as well! Great minds think alike

                          Hey Bob!

You making a tandoor? Too cool! I was thinking (dangerous activity for me, I know) about using leftover firebrick to build one once my oven is completed. What do you think of the idea of insulated 3" thick walls, built Pompeii-style without the hassle of angles and outside gaps?

                            Re: Low cost materials

                            Hi John,

I'd like to know more about your idea and design. I haven't started construction so am open to a wide range of possibilities and materials for mine. Maybe a new thread would attract others to comment and provide input.

Ideally though, the beauty of a tandoor style oven is the smooth, seamless, clay insert that allows you to cook traditional naan bread. A modified flower pot is a good substitute for a clay insert because the surface is smooth and seamless too.

I have a contact in India where tandoor ovens are common. I'll ask for his thoughts on building one for home use.

                            Cheers,
                            Bob
