  • Dried Dog Treats.

I tried to dry some meat for the dog today with the residual heat from the oven, he just loves kiln dried treats we buy for him which are nothing more than just bones.

I put some bony meat off cuts in the oven but they cooked rather than dried.
There was a small amount of meat on the bone, should I have taken the meat off?

Never tried that, we use an inexpensive ($29 US) food dehyrator to make jerky for our dogs . (OK, so I have made a batch or 2 of beef jerky for myself.)
Really simple to use and it comes out great if you follow the directions. We done a few fruits as well - apples, pears, banannas.
The only downside is the time, 8-10 hrs for chicken breast cut into jerky strips. But you can walk away for several hrs and not have to worry.

Arhh, so 150c was a bit too much? thats why they cooked rather than dry out.

Here are some dried dog treats that actually worked, the dog wont eat meat as such he prefers road kill and bones.

The oven was at about 70-80c and they were in there for 24 hours.

            And the tick of approval.

That is such a great idea for dog treats. The way I figure it, if you can cook a few every time your are using the oven anyways you can stockpile the treats for resale :-)
