Re: Where do you store your stand mixer?

Just a quick picture I want to share with you...

And my question is: Where exactly would you store a mixer on this counter???

But I'm glad it works for you, James. Baking more bread is always a good thing.

Hm. I don't think I could find any room on that counter either. Do you sleep with it?

My cabinet doors used to look like that too- but it's been a long time since I had that kind of art to decorate with.

Here's hoping that your kids will never get the idea that my twins had once- copying a commercial they'd seen in which a hose was used indoors... it totally ruined some of my son's best artwork. And my day. (and few other things I would rather not think about, even from the distance of nearly 12 years...)

since the KitchenAid/CuisinArt/whatever is a beautiful AND useful tool, leave it out! As long as you have the space, it will encourage you to use it more.

and I freeze my bread after it's fully cooled on the counter or finished it's final rise. either way, they only need a bit of oven and defrost time to get ready for dinner.

Re: Where do you store your stand mixer?

I just bought the KA 600 - it doesn't fit under the cabinets by 3/8 of an inch When we do the kitchen remodel, I need to figure out a way to add the much space.

nothing a Sawzall can't fix After all, what is more important - having you mixer close at hand (not to mention those attachments you want) or the aesthetics of your kitchen? As you've said, you ARE going to remodel

                  RT,
I'll most likely rip it off the bottom of the counter cabinets. There are only two of them against the wall in that part of the kitchen, shouldn't be too bad.

Re: Where do you store your stand mixer?

Thanks to Wiley, who gave my silly rhetorical question a great deal of thought and came up with a very good answer, I now do have a place to put my mixer, plus a lot more counter space than before. Ok, it isn't exactly what you suggested Wiley, but I would never have thought of changing anything without your input .

The mixer is still near the ground, because counter tops generally seem to be built for giants rather than for normal sized people like me, and I prefer lifting heavy things like dough and sacks of flour down rather than up above shoulder height.

Still working on the twirly cover slip for the mixer...

Re: Where do you store your stand mixer?

Hey, nice corner shelves! (I almost said nice rack, but that would have been weird) I covet your mixer. My 6 quart Kitchenaid, Dinah, does a good job and does many other things as well, but I can't do as much by weight as you can. Of course, I'm still trying to get rid of bread, so I guess I don't really need more capacity...

As for the twirly cover, do you quilt? Piecing is like mosaic with cloth, you know...

Mine is named Berta, after my grandmother, who was the original owner of my mixer. :-)

Well, I hate single-function tools. So I make bread, pizza and cook other things in it. Right now I have a boneless pork sirloin thingy in it. And since I never make just one of anything, (heck I even made two babies at once...) I end up with more bread than I ought to be eating...besides, it's a challenge to learn how to manage the fire, the oven and the bread all at once!

And Nikki, if I could have gotten my hands on my grandmother's Sunbeam I would have. My cousin beat me to it and she doesn't even cook! dinah does ok. She was a trooper last year during the great deer sausage escapade.

Oh cool, I get to name my mixer?

My sourdough is already called Yorick (the yeast)... the mixer, hmmm, I'll come up with something...
