  • Type of pizza cutter

My old rotary wheel pizza cutter no longer does the job.

Now looking at 14 " Pizza Knives, 14" or 20" Pizza Rockers, etc.

What are most using and why.

Leaning towards the 14" pizza rocker as it looks like it can work fast, make clean cuts and looks indestructible.

    thanks

Since I am not mass making pizzas the wife won't let me get a pizza sword (large rocker). She doesn't like the rollers either and using a large carving knife is just gouch. So I have settled for my grandmothers 6 inch rocker. It has a real rusty cast iron handles but a sharp stainless steel blade that is deep , good for cutting those messy New York Pizzas or Rocky Mountain Pies without getting your knuckles immersed. It stores easily.

I guess I'm old fashion, but I use a wheel. I've gone through a handful of them, but they work.

I would look forward to hearing how the "sword" works.

I prefer a wheel also. A good restaurant quality wheel will last for years ans when it wears out....get a new one. My 2 cents!

You can even buy restuarant grade wheels with detachable cutting wheels, which can be sharpened and replaced.

I can get those, so let them know if anybody is interested in the "super cutter".

            Re: Type of pizza cutter

I find that the rolling wheel cutter works ok with thin pizzas. I make a pizza which has a high crust and it is slightly thicker than thin dough pizzas. The "rocker" pizza cutter is excellent for the pizza I make.

              Re: Type of pizza cutter

There were postings on this very subject some time ago,
The rocker cutter that I made from a scrap piece of stainless (actually from my chimney void) works an absolute treat and never use the commercial rotary cutter any more.

                Re: Type of pizza cutter

I've tried various rotary cutters, but the rocker cutter is my cutter of choice. As I said earlier, the pizzas I make have a high crust and the rocker cutter does a great job. I was watching a program on satellite the other day and the pizza maker was cutting his pizza with a rocker pizza that I have never seen before. It had a vertical handle on either side of the blade. I was searching for this rocker cutter when I happened on this site. I'm still searching for the rocker cutter this pizza maker was using. I'm sure to find the manufacturer soon.

with all the pizza lovers on this site, I'd pot all the information and picture(s) of your favourite cutter.
I also agree with your preference. They are safer, quicker, easier and damage (lift off the cheese topping) the appearence if the pizza.
If you can't find a supplier, then make one. Very easy to do.

                    Re: Type of pizza cutter

I think I saw that show and what he was using looked like draw blade for wood working that was dulled on the cutting side and sharpened on the back. It may have been a pizza cutter but it looks similar. Nice tool indeed. This one I could find and is similar http://www.baileysonline.com/prod_images/15707_L.jpg
