  • Challah

Ok, so this is not exactly a hearth bread, as I cooked in in my indoor oven, but it came out so well...3 tiered Challah from Hamelman's Bread cookbook

I made 4 of these monsters last weekend and gave 3 away as gifts. It makes the best french toast...off to my breakfast then...

      Re: Challah

Drake, how hot did you have the oven? We make challah generally every couple of weeks but since it bakes at about 350 we haven't considered using our wood fired oven.

We're getting two batches of bread from our Casa 90, which I installed without any added mass. Could easily do a batch or two of challah after those, all on about 7 modest pieces of firewood!

        Re: Challah

I cooked this in my regular electric oven. If you did it in the wood fired, it would have to be pretty cool (I think I baked at 370) and on a pan like an airbake to keep the bottom from burning since there are eggs and sugar in this loaf...
