  • WFO at your table?

An interesting twist on taking the soapstone out of the oven and onto your table. Scroll down past the cars and stuff...

The little soapstones, roughly four inches square, look like unpolished granite and cost the restaurant 300 euros apiece.

I've been to one of Adelaide's up market hotels where they bought out a similar stone where you sliced up your chicken or steak and cooked it at your table.
A novel idea but took ages to get through your meal.
You might as well stay at home and cook your meal as go out to a restaurant and still having to cook your selection.

Sorry, but no thanks! As far as I'm concerned, that's a total rip off!
It's the same as self service gas. 'We'll let the customer do all the work and still take their money! And the cost will stay right up there with a full service
          business!'
The place should be called "highway robbery steak house!"

I have been toying with the idea of making a soapstone 'warming plate' that can be left on the dinner table to go under a soup pot, rolls, main dish, whatever. Since it gives up heat slowly, I figure the only variable is how hot to start with so it doesn't overcook what's sitting on it.

How to insulate it so it doesn't burn the table?

You could make mini mini pizza ovens to sit on the table, heats and insulates....
