  • ... and what the neighbours cooked!

I have now had my oven "cooking" for 3 weeks now and have found that my neighbours also want to use it for their cooking. It's just as well that i didn't make an oven that was too small.

I did 10 pizzas on Saturday night and then did pork ribs on Sunday which went into the oven at about 3pm when the oven was at approx 160C. I also soaked some corn that was still in the husk in water for an hour and threw these straight on the oven floor to cook for an hour. The ribs were great and I was particularly impressed with how good the corn was.

The neighbours slow cooked a leg of lamb and roasted potatoes and the good thing about owning the oven is that you can demand a tasting tax for the use of the oven. The lamb was succulent and very tasty and the roast potatoes were crispy while being fluffy inside. I would have thought that 160C would be too low to cook the potatoes well but my teenage son declared that they were the best roast potatoes he had ever had.

We may have to put a gate between the 2 back yards so they have easy access to the oven.

If they had their own oven I'd lose the option of my "tasting tax"

I'm not sure that I would let the neighbour actually use my oven, but I often give both neighbours pizzas which seems to keep the relationship on a sound footing and eliminates smoke complaints!
