  • Issue with android picture upload. Fix planned?

    Hi Admin team,
wanted to inform you that the issue uploading pictures is still reproducable as of this day.
Is this known? Is this planned to be addressed?

    Anton.

My workaround that has worked pretty consistently has been to use an app to resize the photos at smaller sizes. When uploading fullsize pictures I sometimes got a size error, but other times got other strange errors. Since I started resizing before uploading, I've not had any of the weird errors.

I am just going by memory, the original Forum blog limited jpeg files to something over 1 meg per photo and a maximum of 5 meg total (might of been 3 meg too) per post roughly. I know my Samsung android takes photos substantially larger than 1 meg so I have to resize to post. I look for the criteria for this but could not find it anywhere.

Anton, as David in Calgary noted above...size matters! I've noticed that when friends take pictures with their cell phones they often are using high resolution which translates into quite large picture file size. I had this same problem of uploading pictures to the forum when using photos taken with my camera at "normal" resolution. Again, as David mentioned above there are many free apps for your Android device that will resize your photos before you send or attach them. I find by using the standard 800 x 600 pixel size, the picture file is generally reduced from 4-6 MB to under 200 KB. The picture still looks great on screen and can be enlarged to view lots of detail. I know I've seen the file size limit somewhere here...or during the picture selection process...but I know there is a file size limit (as well as max 6 pictures/post).

My poor old memory recalls a size limit that was under 1 or 2 MB per photo...can't find the actual number right now, but I suspect (as does David ) this is the problem with you posting pics...not the Android operating system/device.

I'll alert Alex_FB . Maybe he or his team at Forno Bravo can give us the forum pic sizes.

i hear what you guys are saying about the file size. understandably it would be unfeasible for FB to store load hi res photos.
the error message probably should indicate it is an issue and not "file type".
what worried me is linking to images hosted elsewhere was also displaying this error. "was" as in at the moment i can't reproduce it to capture a screenshot,
so resolved? or perhaps user error after all , between me, mobile and PC someone must have been really tired.

Anton, I also was getting the file type error (& size and others), but since I started shrinking files before uploading, I've not gotten an error.
it'sa little annoying to resize them all, but error were worse.

Hello All! Thanks for bringing your questions and concerns to the table. The current maximum file size for jpg and jpeg is 1.5 MB regardless of height and width. This size probably worked well in the past, but is a bit outdated to match up with today's photography standards. We will be updating the Forum to the latest version most likely in August / September to bring a more fluid feel between themes, and to make sure all buttons and such work and mobile is easier to navigate - nothing major. I will talk with the team about increasing files size, and possibly incorporate auto-size reduction for images that are too large if that is possible with the current technology. I'll place that on my list so give me a week or so and I'll give an update .

I also have this trouble, I can't load my picture with size of 1.5MB, it's tells me that file is too large. Will you increase file limit to 3-5mb lately?

See post #8. Currently posted pics will need to be reduced to abt 1.1 mg in order to post.

Auto size adjustment would be a great enhancement to the site!
