Now that's a brick oven. Looks great. I really like the look of a red brick oven, very traditional.
I've been wanting to post how impressed I am at a pic you posted 2 pages back: 3 pizza's at one time? My personal best is 2 and I find it exhausting. Then again, I don't have kids clamoring for pizza, honing my oven skills .
Nice looking oven,
Dino

Great looking brick work. I too have had many distractions and I believe I might be the slowest brick layer ever. Good luck on the roof, can't wait to see it finished off.
It has been a while since I posted. Last weekend I did some work on the front of the oven and started the chimney. Today I did a bit more and since I have only about25 bricks left before I must there is nothing left to except chimney, I will start the roof work tomorrow. I'm gonna start the framing. As most of you can imagine, I am pretty excited about that.
Sunday I got up early and went to the hardware store. I intended to put the subroof on but got called in early in the afternoon to work. Before I left I put the crown on the chimney and also finished most of the steel roof support.
I have built the chimney up about 6 feet and filled the cavity with vermiculite.\\
I built a framework of cement board to hold the concrete crown. I also wrapped the chimney in foam to leave room for a high temp silicone expantion joint.
I think it turned out very nice. I removed the foam after it set up but didn't take a picture, since it was nearly midnight when I got home from work.
Your cap is going to need some additional work. It should overhang the chimney by an inch all the way around, and needs to be at least 2 inches thick. I attached a picture showing how to form the cap, it is easy. Use scrap and screws so you can take it apart with out beating on it.
I did a rock on the corner of my grill chimney just like yours.
Would this weekend be soon enough? Not likely I'll get to it before then. I currently have the chimney under black plastic to prevent rain from getting in. the last course of bricks I put on it hang over the edge about a half inch. I figured that would be enough.
WCD,
Thoroughly enjoyed reading through your build, tonight. Procrastinator? You? Nooooooo!
I think it's great that you are getting those pizzas cooked (while we're still having curing fires). Isn't that what it's all about?
Weather forecasts to below freezing on Sunday here......
Thanks for the compliments. I'm working on it. Only had to put in 110 hours the last two weeks. Today I got the OSB subroof on the oven, and put the chimney cap on as well. I am not sure how my 'gasket' will work out I used some expandable firestop for the gasket since I couldn't find high temp silicone at my big box store. I then painted it with grill paint. if it holds cool..if not I'll redo it.I ran out of daylight before I could get the felt on. I have the Fabral steel roofing material in my garage waiting to instal.
I'm gonna be doning the Thanksgiving turkey in the oven so I need to come up with a plan the next couple days.
If you still want to waterproof the chimney liner try PepBoys. Our store sells the high-temp silicone in standard caulk-gun cylinders. It is not cheap but you might also be able to get away with using a smaller tube of high-temp exhaust sealer. Both products are the same color and appear to have similar properties.
Thanks for the tip on the Silicone. If the firestop I used doesn't work I'll check it out.
Friday I put the roofers felt on and today I put the metal roof on. I'm pleased with the way it turned out. I still have to put the trim pieces on it but I am glad to have a decent roof on with winter rolling in. I would have taken some pictures but it was 24 degrees this morning and I waited till it warmed up to the 40's before starting, and didn't finish till well after dark.
