  • My Oven in Andalusia

I finished building my oven last night for travel writer Michael Jacobs at his home in Andalusia, Spain.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with much needed advice : )

The idea for the beehive shape came from the drystone hermitages in Skellig Michael, Ireland.

I put 2" of Rockwool insulation around the side of the dome. It can sustain temperatures up to 670C (over 1200F). I also put Arlita round the blanket and doubled the thickness of the Rockwool layer at the top of the dome. Vermiculite and perlite was too difficult to find in Spain.
