Nice looking Igloo. and NO more cracks (once the insulation is on there are NO more cracks). Great Job.

Here is some update from the weekend. We used a grinder to widen the crack on the dome, filled them with Rutland Mortar, added 6" of ceramic fiber blanket, then stucco right over it. It came out very even and very round. The trick is to cut the insulation where they over lap. I really dont understand why most people use V-crete.

My rendering cracked a bit before I even lit a fire. I just put another light coat of homebrew over it and it never cracked again (and I did look before I put the roof on). IMHO I wouldn't use any of that silicon caulking, I would just stick with mortar.

The cracking you experienced was probably from the mortar not curing/drying properly. If i were to fill the cracks with more mortar it would just crack again. I had a crack similar to yours at my entry arch, i filled it with mortar, cracks are gone, but with expansion cracks it wont work the same way. Thanks for your input.

So far no. and i hope it stays that way. If it does get any bigger which i think it might because the stronger the fire gets the larger the cracks seem to get, ill be firing it up to 700F next time. If it does start to smoke out the cracks i will fill the cracks with high temp silicone caulking from the outside.

Some more pictures from the weekend.

Finished the BBQ pit walls & floor.

Since i have sooo much for the beautiful bricks we created a planter/brick wall. Made a form to pour a concrete footing.

    Concrete poured.

    Three rows of brick laid

Here are some more from today, got the oven walls up to 400-425. Today went pretty well i guess. I got down the method pretty well. The charcoal chimney starter worked like a charm, lit up a few pieces of wood then constantly added wood, every 2 minutes i would throw in a piece inside, worked pretty well. The fire was constant and never went out in the chimney starter, i used scrap 2x4 wood at first then switched over to Hardwood/Mulberry.

Threw in some Mulberry to dry out for the next firing.

And here are the cracks thus far.
