Hi,

Again questions about floor insulation

I am currently building my igloo stove using a 1 inch thick ceramic fiber board above my concrete slab below my 3 inches fire bricks floor.
I will put a 3 inches ceramic fiber blanket on top of the 4.5 inches fire brick dome for insulation.

Do you think that 1 inch ceramic fiber board is enough for the floor?

Also the edge of my concrete slab is touching the bricks of the entrance door in the front.
Should I leave a gap somehow?

These two photos are some days old. I now have only two rows of bricks to put and I will be done with the dome. I can not just move the bricks around easily anymore. I would have to remove the entire floor without damaging my dome to add anything under the floor.

Thomas - if you have your dome nearly completed then it is too late to add any insulation. You should do ok with what you have.

You can add a thermal break between your inner arch and the entry gallery. It does not need to be very wide to stop the heat transfer and is worth the doing. A quick search of the threads will reveal plenty about that.

I am curious about the lip on the outside of your base slab. It looks like a potential water reservoir. You will need to ensure that water can not enter and be held there otherwise you could end up with a very wet oven and insulation under it.

Thanks for your answer.

The final floor around the oven will be leveled with the lip.
I am planning to put terra cotta tiles above and around the oven.

I will send photos once it is done.
