Hello from Western Washington State, USA! New to joining this forum after lurking a bit... I’m all in for building a 36” Pompeii style wood oven in our back yard kitchen. I have the deck and dining pavilion built plus I poured a 8” concrete pad with rebar and wire mesh, used concrete block (vertical and horizontal rebar, filled) to built the oven support/base and have the 3.5” sub base poured with rebar and wire mesh. Seemed like overkill the entire time but it may double as an earthquake shelter ;-) I’m gathering insulated base and oven build materials now. So far I’ve acquired fire brick and refractory mortar, Perlite and mortar from Home Depot, Ceramic blanket insulation and fire clay from Amazon. I have photos to share and will continue to document my build as I’m a aging tradesman/contractor and some habits die hard. Not a computer expert so I’ll need to figure out how to reduce photo size to upload

Welcome, Although an engineer, I am an old pencil and paper guy. Most of all my build was done on graph paper. That said, there have been some great Excel spreadsheets done by members to help builders, ie one to help determine the taper and bevel of the dome bricks, another to help with designing the inner arc bricks. etc. If you are using a phone to take pics, just reduce the pixel size in on the phone. The current limit is abt 1.25 meg and 5 or so pics per post. Nothing wrong with build a stout base, these ovens get really heavy fast.Russell
