  • Ones build dilemma

Hi everyone I’ve decided to try build a oven everything seemed to be going smoothly till il got to the last couple courses I was to focused on trying to have tight gaps and my last couple courses got ugly I think I should have used a form from what I’ve been reading with the remaining hole I have can I just fill it with whatever I can get in there

If you could post some pictures of what you have built so far folks could offer up better suggestions on how to get finished.

Lots of folks end up with strange shapes at the top of their ovens. I ended up with a seven sided plug- see link below. You could hold a piece of cardboard up against the ID of the hole and trace the shape, then transfer that onto a plug. Might take a few pieces. Just don't do like I did and make the fit too tight. A light tap and I knocked some flakes from the adjacent bricks.

I was always under impression that it had to be a perfect keystone at the end and it got tricky and I think I got impatient as well I might try what you said

Yup, the imperfections just gets amplified with every course. You see keystones in all shapes and sizes.

The pizza will be just as good.

take your time to cut your unique keystone. It will probably take half a dozen dry-fits. Make the inside face first with cardboard. And It’s okay if the (invisible) outside gaps are wider.

I’m not sure if I can get it out of one brick the outside gaps could be quite large

ID:	443758 I does not have to be one brick, my plug was three pieces, the lower or internal one piece the upper or outside was two pieces. So speaking of being impatient. Do step back and take a deep breath. It is later part of the builds the builders get in a hurry, wanting to get the project completed, This especially true when curing the oven. Take your time.
