  • Offset chimney design?

    Hi Guys,
I am very new to this forum and am currently doing a load of research into how to build my perfect Pizza Oven. I am planning on building a 40" Pompeii but I want to offset the chimney so it rises from the center of the dome. I am also planning on building a secondary brick dome around the ovens insulation similar to the image shown here. Has anyone on FB actually tried a build like this???

Most people seem to just insulate and render the dome or build the oven into some kind of box/ housing.

Would love to see any pictures or hear from anyone if you have done anything similar and hear how it worked out for you!

In a previous response I mentioned that a beaver or squirrel tail vent needed for chimney like you want. Do a search on the forum for beaver or squirrel tail. There was a recent build similar to the pic you posted.

UtahBeehiver Thanks for the reply... Sorry I missed your comment about the beaver/squirrel tail vent.
Do you know if they are harder to get the draw on the fire working properly?

There are quite a few builds where the final dome finish was brick - check out Gulf's magnificent Mississippi Queen. The front of his oven is different from what you are looking for, but the dome is very well done in brick.

As Russell mentioned above, you are either going to have to build a vent that wraps around the top of your oven (fairly complicated build) or put a direct vent in your oven chamber which will result in what I believe is an inefficient oven in terms of heat retention. I would suggest you poke around on the forum and find a pompeii style oven that you really like the looks of. There are plenty of beauties to emulate.
