  • Brick material

Hi everyone, been lurking round these forums for years but not really contributed I’m afraid.
It’s about time I got stuck in.

I’ve got a newb question about some bricks I have left over from a house extension I had built.
the builders left a huge pallet of bricks. See photo.
Is this a suitable clay brick to build my dome? Was worried it may be concrete??
Was thinking of going to castable route if they aren’t useable

Hi and welcome. Conventional clay bricks will not last nearly as long in a wood fired oven as fire bricks, but a friend of mine built one almost completely from regular clay bricks, and it worked out OK.
He did use proper fire brick for the floor and also for the top few courses of the dome, building the rest in regular clay brick. Of course, there was more cracking than with fire brick, but the oven lasted perfectly Ok for many years.
