    Already the case many places here in the US. In Seattle and many other locations, you cannot build a home with a wood-burning fireplace. Gas only.

    They do cause a lot of smog, because they don't burn the wood very efficiently. I am just guessing here, but I would think a WFO does a much better job of burning clean because of how hot they burn.

    About 10,300 tonnes of invisible fine particles was released into the atmosphere from the state's wood heaters in 2008

    There is a federal review under way to limit the amount of wood heaters sold, or at least to regulate them.
    The ones in place are fine but the government will try to persuade owners to turn to the more environmentally friendly gas heaters.
    How is a fossil fuel more friendly? You can grow another tree but how do you replace the gas?

    I am a wood heater owner btw.
