  • The end is nigh in Oz for wood heaters.

    The end is nigh.
There is a federal review under way to limit the amount of wood heaters sold, or at least to regulate them.
The ones in place are fine but the government will try to persuade owners to turn to the more environmentally friendly gas heaters.
How is a fossil fuel more friendly? You can grow another tree but how do you replace the gas?

I am a wood heater owner btw.

Already the case many places here in the US. In Seattle and many other locations, you cannot build a home with a wood-burning fireplace. Gas only.

They do cause a lot of smog, because they don't burn the wood very efficiently. I am just guessing here, but I would think a WFO does a much better job of burning clean because of how hot they burn.

The estimate is that there will be 1 Million more vehicles belching out fossil fuel fumes on the roads in Australia in the next 20 years, and yet wood fires are on the hit list?

We might be ok if the CSIRO prediction is right
The price of petrol could soar to a crippling $8 a litre over the coming decade, according to CSIRO-sponsored research to be released today.

                      Gudday
Petrol at $8 a litre would cripple the price of transporting wood to the urban areas as well, we would all be forced to collect wood on foot from our local surrounds. Sobering thought as I have never brought wood but need the ute to transport it

Obviously the pro timber lobby is losing pace with the fossil fuel fellas'. If only we could all own enough land to coppice our own firewood.
