Re: Soot deposits not burning away.
Maybe your oven is still wet. Tell us about your insulation, how you cured it, are your dome-to-door ht correct (63%). A couple of hours with a roaring fire should get any oven up to temp, even my 60"er.

And, as always, the more you burn, the better your oven gets as you drive off the last of that residual moisture.

Re: Soot deposits not burning away.
I think the other point here it time. If I used a bunch of small wood (sticks) I could have a big flame but it would burn out quickly. My oven is not average and it take a good 2.5 hours to clear. Correct me if I'm wrong but and average oven take 1.5 to 2 hours to get to temp. So hot fire that burns steady for at least 1.5 hours should get a cured oven up to temp.

Try to fill the whole dome with flame.

In that case I'll get a bigger fire going! I might try some heat logs to see if they make any difference. I also need to get some more oak logs too as I've run out!

The fires are fairly big buy not enough to get the flames out of the front and vent. I may make a bigger fire then and see how it goes!

Re: Soot deposits not burning away.
How big is the fire? You should be able to get flames to shoot out the front and the vent. After you do that for a couple of hours I cannot believe you won't be above 450.

Soot deposits not burning away.
Hi all,
I've got my oven up and running and done the usual curing process, this was done a couple of months ago. I've got the temperature up to 450 degrees but can't get it any higher which means that the soot isn't burning off.
Just in case you ask, the outside of the dome is still cool to the touch.
Do you think my fire isn't big enough, should I use some Eco logs to get a higher temperature as I currently use pine to get the fire going then oak blocks to keep the heat.
Any help would be appreciated!
