exterior stone - El Dorado Stone

Has anyone used El Dorado Stone as the outside decorative material for their oven? I'm told it's fine to use, but it's manmade material, so I'm concerned the pieces near the oven opening may melt.

It won't melt, it is made from lightweight concrete.

Welcome to the forum. There are a few of us So Cal oven builds here on the site, plus plenty of knowledge from all over. Good luck with your build, post pictures.
