non-insulated chimney surrounded by perlite

Hi,

As my topic says - is it okay to have a non insulated chimney sorrounded by perlite inside the "house" for a WFO ? (37 inch pompeii)

Or does it get to hot ?

I just changed my mind on the final outcome of my WFO, 2 days ago it was supposed to be an igloo, but now I want to build the full "house" around it - sorry I dont know the correct word for it ;-)

I, like you, don't have a double wall chimney, so I am definitely going to be installing a single wall chimney and wrap it with ceramic blanket insulation. Yes, why not so long as perlite insulates as well, I think you just need to make the surrounding layer of perlite thick enough. The recommended thickness of perlite layer under the hearth is 3.5" but I don't know what is right for the chimney.
The preferred expression for enclosing the oven is called "enclosure". Your alternative design to igloo is gabled house enclosure I reckon.

Hi Spirit.

Yeah maybe i didnt Express my self to good, the enclosure will be fill of Loose perlite, and just wanted to know if i could avoid the ceramic blanket around the chimney now that i fill it up with perlite. cuz it Means i need to buy more of the blanket, and in Denmark its expensive 160 EUR or so.

As loose perlite can well insulate the dome, it can roughly insulate the chimney as well being less hot. If it were mine, I would fill the entire enclosure with loose perlite, over the dome and around the chimney. As the enclosure is gabled house, the insulation around the chimney will be more than thick enough to keep the enclosure cool from the outside.
