China mans cap design?

Apart from keeping the rain coming down your flu is there any design significance I need to be aware of when installing one?

Most commercial chimney caps incorporate spark arrestors to reduce fire embers from shooting up and possibly starting a fire nearby.

Spark arrestor is normally just a bit of flatscreen.
im thinking of making my own because the $70 they r asking is a total rip off

Sure, you can make your own, I thought you asked what to be aware of in a cap.

I did ask that, so that before I make my own I don’t miss any important things I’m unaware of

If you make a basic China mans cap it might keep the rain out but it won't stop the wind from coming back down the flue, also the mesh you use for the spark arrestor will restrict the air flow
Here is a couple of pics of a wind cowl I had made up they might be a bit expensive but the do work well
