I am thinking of building a dome style oven and then a square brick enclosure around it with a small gable roof. Is is possible or advisable to insulate the dome with a ceramic blanket and then use vermiculte to fill the void between the dome and the brick? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you’re having a dog kennel style then the perlite or vermiculite can be poured over the blanket loose. This has the advantage of no cement in the mix which reduces the insulation value as well as saving the labour of mixing and placement. Also because it is dry you won’t have issues with having to eliminate all the water in that layer. Because the layer will be much thicker in the corners you can save on the amount required by filling the corners with empty plastic bottles or ceiling insulation bats.Kindled with zeal and fired with passion.
