Pergola over igloo ,any ideas?

Hi,there!
Forgive me if I have posted this question in the wrong box.
I'm looking for ideas on how to build a simple structure to
protect my future igloo from the elements building a brick
box around it with a gable roof would look to overpowering,massive,
since my garden is long and narrow.Pics welcome!!!

I like the look of a dome covered in stucco. It's a pleasing shape and probably as compact as you can get in terms of covering. There are plenty of postings here on how to do this type of enclosure. Here's a nice reprentative picture of Jed's oven.

Ive just finished my oven - but made sure ive made it waterproof with sealer and masonary paint until i build my structure over it.

Im thinking of a wooden pergola structure...see

and they seem very easy to build

Im thinking of doing a standard sloping roof pergola that i can add a simple roof to allowing a hole for my chimney extension..

I think with trelis on 2 sides once you have a few vines etc over it it will look great very subtle and not a large lump...

Hello Masako

Not sure how much weather protection a pergola will give you, but you might get some with trelis and climbing plants.

I've built my oven under a pergola (picture attached). They are very easy to construct and quite flexible in design. The pergola uprights (and fixings) and large crosbeams are the only specialist pergola parts you need to buy, the other parts are eay enough to buy from more general shops or make yourself.

Most important thing to note is to keep your chimney/vent away from the pergola crossbeams.

I like curves thus the dome enclosure for my WFO. So I wanted a roofed protective structure which also had curves. Another "want" was it had to be metal roofed. After much searching without luck we encountered this one day in our local Costco store. It wasn't in their online catalog. It looks like it will fit our needs quite well and as the roof is made of fairly heavy guage aluminum panels (with the top panel being horizontal and wide enough for a collar) it will be fairly easy to build the chimney pass-thru. The only drawback is the hollow sound when one knocks on the vertical columns. I'm exploring the possibility of filling the tubes with some sort of bulk sand/ vermiculite/perlite mixture to correct this (no cement as I don't want to create a corrosion problem).

Costco isn't in Japan but these were manufactured in China (where else?) so there is a posibility they are exported elsewhere in the world.

A pergola wouldn't work up here in Scotland as we have a lot of wind and rain. Here's my solution and I light my oven in any weather all year round. It wasn't finished when this picture was taken but it is now.

GJ, No, that's my neighbour's shed. I took the picture from the house. The stone is red sandstone which is common around here. I have one wall in the house made of it from the ruins of the original cottage, and then used the rest for the wall. Dry stone dyking was common around here and now it's a dying art. My wall has some cement in it but the neighbour's old shed does not. It's been there for at least 150 years.
