  • Vent Placement for Lintle opening

How did people place the vent for the chimney when they had a lintle opening and a decorative arch? By that I mean did you do a row of arched bricks, an opening in the bricks, and then another row of bricks or did you leave an opening immediatly after the dome then start on the arch?

    Thanks!

Amber - I went with an arch, opening, then arch.

God yours is good! Did you shim the chimney up around the sides, to keep it from moving?

Amber - if you go to my thread (Les' Build), page 3 link #146. You can see what I did to support the chimney.

I built mine from the dome out towards the front. I left the bricks run long at the inner arch so they could key in with the outer arch. I then faced the outer arch with the decorative arch and let it hang down about 3/4 of an inch to encourage smoke to go up the chimney vs. out. It seems to work well.

As you can clearly see - my brick cutting and cleanliness is not quite up to par with Les.

Well, honestly, whose is? Looks great, though, and as long as the pizza tastes good! Thanks for the visuals.

Also - you can't see from the pics. The inner arch bricks are notched so that they go under the dome arch and support it. I packed the tails of the inner arch bricks with refrax (refmix) so that I was sure the arch supported the dome opening.

BTW - thanks for the kind words!

Thanks that helps! Y'alls oven really does look sweet. I can't wait until ours is done. I really sit around and look at the pizza pictures in the forum and drool. Soon, soon....
