Chimney Cap

I think I participated in a thread about this before, but for the life of me I can't find it. What did you all use for a chimney cap? I'm most interested in ideas than a store-bought terra cotta one.

Les's for example, is bad ass.

There are a lot of pretty copper caps out there but they all seem to be 1000USD or lots more!

I bought a cap from Home Despot and stuck it up there as I could not decide on a cap at the time... it's still up there and still does not look right...

I agree - Les makes a pretty cap! (he's a BA for sure!)

This pipe and cap combination came from Habitat for Humanity store, for maybe $20 USD.

Hi Amber
I made my own and incorporated a spark arrester into the design.
Nothing flash but practical.
Now the flue goes up through the patio roof and the cap is unseen unless you venture up into the back garden and look back onto it.
I personally don't think it is worth spending money and time on the less important things, so long as the oven works well and holds it's heat for baking.
However, if you have a masonry chimney or a short terracotta or steel flue, a nice cap can add to the aesthetics of your oven appearance

Pratchett's a writer of humerous fantasy/sience fiction and he said writing is the most fun anyone can have by themselves. Just goes to show he never built an oven, eh?

If you ever come accross one of his books, give it a go. You might like it... I think they're very funny, if that's anything to go by

I think I would have found the process slightly less rewarding if I'd done it alone - I had a blast working with my Dad on it. That's just me, though. Props to anyone who can do it solo!
