Arch for wood storage area

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but I'm not having luck finding it. When I made my stand I didn't realize that I should have made a cement arch form so I could later brick it. Now that I'm beyond that point is it still ok to do some sort of brick arch? I'd like to brick the entire stand with an arch going around the wood storage opening. Maybe some sort of durarock arch as a backing?

What sort of brick are you using? If it's standard three and a half inch face brick, you would just build your arch like any other arch, with a wooden form below, and mortar the bricks radially on top of it. If it's thin face brick, yes, you'll have to build some sort of armature to support them.

Standard for at least the arch but what I'm wondering about is that part in the corners between the arch and the actual stand.. what do I put there to stick the brick to? Nothing? Just go up from the arch and hope it supports it ok?

Am I making sense?

Just to be sure, did you stick those bricks right to your cement block and cement?

When I stacked the block I sat in some brick ties. There is probably 1/2 inch of space (most likely filled with mortar) between the block and brick.

yeah, I didn't put any brick ties in.. well.. i guess I'll just cross my fingers that it doesn't fall down..

You can use a ramset to attach them - if not that, use tapcon's. You don't need very many ties for that short of a verticle distance.

I was thinking the same as Les- A few tapcons into the side of the stand should be more than adequate. Are your bricks cored or solid? Cored bricks are marginally more stable, as the mortar has holes to key into; but either should work fairly well. You're not supporting the weight of the stand on the bricks, so they've only got their own weight to hold up. They'll have the support of the stand they are mortared to. They only have to keep from separating from the stand.

I am doing something similar with my stand. I have the block stand to support the weight of the oven, with a brick facing and arch to the storage area. I don't have ties throughout the wall, but will be installing them in the final row of bricks to tie the facing to the stand.

yeah... they say the corrugated ones aren't recommended for this application, but since you're essentially retrofitting this, it's either that or some more expensive masonry re-anchoring described there at fig. 11. And since this is only a 4-foot high non-structural facade on an outdoor installation, I wouldn't worry about it unless you have to deal with a particularly difficult building inspector.
