  • Superior Clay Black Firebricks Ok for oven floor?

Are the black firebricks ok to use on the oven floor? It says on thier website that the black firebricks have "These bricks have an applied matte black glaze which produces a consistent solid finish."

I would give them a call and explain the usage. Superior Clay is very familiar with WFOs and will surely tell you if these glazed firebricks are suitable.
In my younger days, I was a vendor of Superior Clay's in Ohio. They were a top notch company (fantastic people, great product) back then (15-20 yrs ago), I don't think they will steer you wrong.

Hmm. A glazed brick on the oven floor. My guess is that part of the secret of the brick oven is it's porosity. I'm not sure glazed tile floor would be effective even if the glaze were food safe.

Superior Clay is 15 min for my house, I just heard about their WFO and products last week.
In this county Belden brick and Superior have prospered for decades, but both are on the decline...sadly FR

Talk about the high priced spread! The Brits and the Aussies can stop bragging about their firebrick prices!

Wow! at almost $8 a brick, I guess I won't be finding out! I didn't like them THAT much.

And I thought I was a little disappointed when I got a price from the local small yard supplier for $2 a brick for the yellow HC Muddox.

Got a phone quote today for $1.28 a brick, sounds good to me.

Just need to go get them, figure out where the oven will go, Design the structure, pour the slab, set the CMU base... etc, etc.
