  • Mystery Bricks

I have the opportunity to get 160 free "fire" bricks from a cleanout guy on Craigslist.

Here is what I know: They are stamped FJD on the side, they are beige in color. They are 8 3/4 long by 4" wide by 2.5" high. Any/all info is appreciated.

We have yet to begin any construction, but I certainly don't want to begin compiling the wrong materials.

    Re: Mystery Bricks

We used recycled bricks. No problems yet

The issue offered by other boardmembers was one of the unknown. Specifically, contamination by unknown contaminants during the former life of the bricks.

Do you know what they were used for? Are they stained or discolored in any way?

"Free" makes it a slam dunk in my view. You can find something to put them to good use.

If you are thinking about building a brick oven, my advice is Here.

I try to learn from my mistakes, and from yours when you give me a heads up.
