Is there any problem with using Insulating Firebrick instead of Fireclay Firebrick?

Insulating brick could be used for back up insulation, although it wont insulate as well as fiber or cal sil board. If you are picking up your cal sil board, ask to look at both insulating brick and fireclay brick - its easy to see the difference.

I will be using the cal sil board for the first layer of insulation. I was wondering if I could use the insulating brick for the dome and floor. Seems like the fireclay brick is pricy.

Ins bricks wont hold any heat. Forget about them unless it is for the base.

insulating is light in weight, and not as strong as dense fireclay brick for long time use.
