  • where can I buy acrylic stucco for dome finish?

On my way back from a two month sailing trip to the Bahamas, and I'm looking forward to finishing out my oven. I have been unable to locate acrylic stucco. Where did you guys source yours?

Totally different beast all together Dave, its more of a mastic than a render.

It's not a mastic really . I got the idea from a member on the forum and passed it on to someone else. I had alreadyasked a another friend who has done rendering and he said it was like the modern render product that he used. They used it and said it was easy to use and gave them a wheather proof cover over a dome. It's just an off the shelf bunnings product so easy to obtain . I have lost contact with the oven owner unfortunately.

Re: where can I buy acrylic stucco for dome finish?

OK, my secret is out. This stuff was developed to seal around ridge caps on tiled roofs. It is quite elastic and roofers rarely have to repair the ridge cap seal now because of it. I've found that if you thin it with water 20% it can be applied by painting it on in a few layers. It is basically sand and a very flexible acrylic so it is easy to get a thick coating. I've been using it now for about three years with great success. It is called Flexible Pointing and is manufactured by a number of brands. Selleys Pointworks is one.
I've used this product in a number of applications with success. I even painted several layers of it on the steering wheel of my old Barina, that had cracked badly. The stuff remained strong yet still flexible and outlasted the car. Have also used it on the tray of my ute and trailer.

PS The instructions say the stuff should not be diluted, but I have contacted the manufacturers and as the stuff is acrylic it is ok to do so.

Acrylic stucco is crap. EIFS is crap. Use it at your own peril, and expect no manufacturer support or warranty.

Flexible Pointing is not acrylic stucco, it is a much more flexible product. If painted on so you have about a 2mm layer it works well. I doubt that a 2mm layer of crap would be either waterproof or strong, just smelly.
