  • FB Board source in Wisconsin?

    Hi!

I am enthusiastically cranking away on making my oven --- the hearth is poured, I'm cutting bricks, but I vastly underestimated the difficulty in obtaining hearth insulation. Does anyone have an online or local (Madison, WI) source for FB board or equivalent? The refractory brick shop where I got my bricks and fire mortar has nothing of the type, nor it seems does home depot or menards.

    Many thanks for any leads!!

    Ciao
    Misha

Misha- Did you ever have any luck finding this locally? I'm in Green Bay.

    Thanks- Seth

Following, as I too have had no luck finding it around the Appleton WI area.

When i built mine i ordered it from Mcgills wearhouse. It is a mail order company and the price was fairly reasonable.

I just called McGill's Warehouse today (9/19/19), and they don't carry the 2" ceramic fiber board in stock anymore. The gentleman that I talked to mentioned something about the trade war with China, and said that they don't expect another shipment of fiber board for at least another 3-4 months. Another poster on this board mentioned calling Distribution International, who carries ceramic fiber board under the trade name UNIFRAX. The UNIFRAX fiber board has a temperature grade of 2300 degrees, and a target density of 14-24 lbs. It is also listed a Duraboard RG (Refractory Grade) on the Distribution International website.

          Hopefully that helps!
