Silica sand (quartz sand)

Has any one heard of silica sand AKA quartz sand? and does this material have anything to do with WFOs?

Pretty much all masonry sand is silica sand.

Actually I found two bags of quartz (silica) sand in my backyard. One is reddish sand and the other is yellowish one. I'm wondering if I can use either for homebrew mix.

It is what I used in my home brew mortar.

The red one is probably iron rich.

Fine. I'm guessing using the red one results in faster heat up times, while using the yellow results in slower heat up but more heat holding.
