Hi,
I have access to this firebrick. Can I use it or look for something better?
SiO2 63% Al2o3 27%

Data sheet shows this is a low-duty brick, which is easy to cut and perfect for your oven.

That is exactly the same brick I'm building with now. I have been told
it is perfect for our use. I paid $1.30/each. What'd they get in TX for them?
Using Sairset refractory mortar.

$1.75 each plus tax, I guess shipping cost difference, it's about twice compare to NJ.

We rail them in, and sell them for less, but they probably truck them in, so that is about right. Your only other alternative in the area is Elgin-Butler firebrick, and they are junk.

Just curious, what characteristics make the Elgin-Butler brick (or any other brick for that matter) inferior?

They are off-size and crumbly. The plant they are made in is ancient, and they have pretty well worked their way through the clay body.

There are probably other less-than-optimal brick properties (cracks, burned centers?) as well, but crumbly sounds pretty bad for an oven. Thanks.
