  • Insulblock 19 substitute

I am building an oven on a steel frame and am looking for a rigid insulating board to use both under the hearth, and for the outer layer of the walls. I have heard good things about insulblock 19, but can't seem to find a supplier in Denver. Are there any other good insulating options that might be more readily available?

    Thanks!

Harbison Walker has a distribution center in Salt Lake City if you feel like a road trip. You might even talk UtahBeehiver into giving you a tour of his incredible oven. I'm not sure I have ever seen anybody using the rigid board to insulate around their dome. It's pretty soft and "crumbly" so it will be interesting to see how you make out with it. If you decide to go with ceramic blanket you can get that from Harbison Walker too.

Your welcome to come to Utah but EJ Bartells has a distribution store in Denver where you can get Ceramic board as well as CF blanket. You will most likely us a blanket on the dome vs board as JR said. We can't emphasize enough not to scrimp on insulation is your truly want to do multi-day cooking.

The Internet is always a good place to find what you need if you can't find it local. The little you pay in shipping is money saved in running around looking. Also make sure you insulate as well as you can afford. It does make a difference.

Thanks for the help. I'll check out EJ Bartells for their CaSi board, and am planning on using a ceramic blanket over the top of the dome, I don't think rigid would work too well for that.
