Greg,
I suspect that you have tried the big box stores and are getting no where fast. You want to find a place that specifically sells masonry products such a brick, block etc. Forget Home Depot and Lowes and head down to the industrial supply area. You can always check with a local mason to see where he gets firebrick etc.
