Is there any significant to building a perlite/vermiculite concrete layer on the hearth AND using the ceramic fiber board?

Depends on the build situation, unenclosed ovens are prone to water getting on the hearth and getting the CaSi board wet. A V or Pcrete layer raises the CaSi off the hearth surface. Material wise P ro Vcrete is substantially less cost than CaSi board, not quite as good of an insulator but not bad either. I use FoamGlas as my first layer since it is will not absorb water but it is the same material cost as CaSi board.Russell

thx, it is a 42" ID and it is plenty big. If fact too big sometimes, it is a party oven, so when I fire it up it is for 15-20 people or so. I don't start it up to cook for less than 5-6 people.Russell
