  • Alternatives to steel fibre for casting

Hello, I am using the forum's search function before posting but came up empty handed. Thing is, I'm stil debating whether to go all in and try to build a brick dome or whether I should cast one. DavidS has recommended to use steel fiber mixed into the refractory cement for the dome walls. I can't seem to find much info about this online, so tried to search on aliexpress. There they don't offer steel fibres, but they do have "3/6/10mm Glass Fiber GFRC Choped Strands Fibers for concrete cement countertops" Any chance I can use this instead of the steel fibres?

No. Do an online search for "melt extract fibers". The issue will be whether there is a manufacturer in Japan. China is a big producer of melt extract fibers. I would check with refractory suppliers as well.

Thanks, yes there are lots of those available from China and that's definitely an option if I can't source those locally.
