Using Polystyrene as an alternative for Ceramic fiber blanket.

Hello Chefs,
I can't get that fiber on the local market. although I found other alternatives like Polystyrene and Mineral wool.

my question: Can i use the Polystyrene as an alternative for the Ceramic fiber blanket?
i am thinking of using 2 inches thickness.

No, you shouldn’t use it. It’s melting point is way too low and the fumes are toxic.

If you can find perlite or vermiculite you can mix with portland and use for floor and dome insulation. I have seen a couple European builds use leca balls and portland for floor insulation. You would think with the number of refineries Saudi Arabia that refractory materials would be more readily available. Also insulating fire brick (IFBs) are also a floor insulation option although expensive.
