  • Insulating Italian Hearth Bricks MT.Vesuvius ?

There is a local Craig listing on some one trying to sell some insulating bricks imported from Italy supposedly made from Mt.Vesuvius ash?Any one heard of these type of bricks. They are 4 in. thick by 10 wide by 14 long. Was thinking about getting a few for any future oven builds to use as a sub layer. Thanks for any info.

Unless they're close to free, I'd avoid mystery mystery substances as insulation. They could be great, they could be volcanic tufa, or they could be pressed toxic waste. Without a material data sheet from the manufacturer, you'd never know.

I was thinking the same thing.Bricks have no manf. marks,or like you say data on them.So it's a crap shot. Thanks for the input.
