Question on lime

Hi Guys,

I'm very confused about lime now ever since I've been shopping around for it. Cement vendors here in the Philippines don't seem to carry it. Is it possible it goes by a different name? I go calling all these vendors and all they say is "Huh?"

Can someone fill me in on its characteristics and its role when mixed with cement to help me further understand.

Is there another substance I can use in place of lime?

I was sailing along with planning my build til I reached this stumbling block.

Thanks Tscarborough. They know it as calcium hydroxide here. Funny that they don't use the term lime. How did you know about apog??!?! That's the Tagalog term here and even I didn't know that hahaha.

Try Agra stores or farm supply. They use lime for disinfecting. I'm in Camarines Sur, Naga City and that's where I found it.
