I am in the process of building a 36” WFO and I am going out of town to buy Heat Stop 50 and for you that have finished yours, how much should I buy?

P.S. I live in a very small town and will be driving about 175 miles to get it.

It depends on how much brick cutting you're planning on doing. As a guideline, the FB 36"kit has 110 pounds of refractory mortar. That may be a bit less than you need. I'd guess three bags of heatstop 50 if you're not planning on doing much individual brick tapering.

Ask if you can return for credit an unopened bag.

You can also build your oven with half heatstop on the inner, thinner mortar joint bricks, holding the bricks apart with wooden wedges, and slather the cheap homebrew in the outer gaps when you're done.
