Hearth materials

Can i use 20mm marble or granite, as floor of oven. Maybe be even porcelain floor tiles over concrete?

I have read on this forum that those stones do not make a good hearth. Use very big firebrick tiles. Like 12x12x2. Or even better, get soapstone. Get it in big thick sheets. There are a couple of members here who did. It is supposed to be like 6 times better than firebrick. Use the fancy stone for the vent landing.

You can use anything you want. The results you get, the lifespan of the material, and the pain of replacing it may (or may not) wish you followed tradition.

I don't know about marble, but under direct heat, granite starts to spall, or explosively disintegrate causing large crystals to pop off. This rugged finish is attractive for stone steps but certainly not for keeping your pizzas and other food clean.

Soapstone also abrades very easily, it is the softest rock you can get. Also known as talc stone it is talcum powder when crushed up.
