  • Perlite or Vermiculite?

    Hi

Are Perlite and Vermiculite interchangeable when building a bread oven?

What is a reasonable price for a bag of Perlite or Vermiculite?

    Thanks again!

As long as you are getting coarse, yes they are pretty much interchangable, though vermiculite is much less dusty than pearlite!

As for cost, depends on where you live. Here in the Phoenix AZ market, plan on $30+ for a 4 ft3 bag of vermiculite and $8 for a 3.5 ft3 bag of pearlite.

Your milage may vary, all patents are pending, dont drink and drive - you might spill.

I would suggest looking for a local hydroponics store. They will likely carry 8 cubic feet bags of perlite and vermiculite. I paid about $15 per bag. If you try to source these products at Home Depot or the equivalent, plan on paying a lot more.

        Hi, thanks for the advice.

How many bags of Perlite or Vermiculite would you recommend to insulate under the floor and around the dome of a 80 x 80 cm Pompeii bread oven?
