  • Castable Refractory Cement Question

    All,
Hello. I have a question about using castable refractory cement. I am trying to cast a base for a small homemade oven. I was planning on putting some 1/2" hardware cloth in as a re-inforcement. The base will be 1" thick. Is it OK to use the hardware cloth? Or, will the rapid and extreme temperature swings with expanding metal crack the concrete? I am using "Rutland Castable Refractory Cement" for this project.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joseph

    Re: Castable Refractory Cement Question

The standard reinforcing for castable refractory is stainless steel needles (melt extract fibres) you may be able to use something else, but remember that heat accelerates corrosion.
