Hello everyone after a couple of years of researching WBO i finally started my build about a week ago. I have got the foundation and stand with concrete and vermiculite down, my question is on my vent landing, is it suppose to be 4" or 6" i have two different plans that have these numbers which one is correct? If anyone can help i would really appreciate it. i am building a 42" oven igloo style, what would the proper recommended specs on this build. I will be posting pics soon on my progress as soon as i figure out how to post the pics..lol

Re: 42" WBO build in NJ vent landing ?
Seeing as how the minimum INTERNAL flue diameter is 8 inches for a 42 inch oven, a landing if only 4 to 6 inches is clearly inadequate. From the outside of the inner arch, your landing would have to be at least 12 inches.

Re: 42" WBO build in NJ vent landing ?
Hey dsm,
I posted a pdf for you on my main oven thread that shows MY landing. It is 15" deep. I think it may be 1-2" deeper than most but I have seen some shallower. As azatty says, the flu pipe should be 8" round (or bigger if using rectangular clay pipe) and you have to smoothly transition from the bigger opening above the landing to that smaller opening. It will draw the smoke much better this way. In hind-site, I might been able to make my landing 2" shorter and still had the good smoke draw, but I'm not sure I would have had the brick-knowledge/ know-how to keep the transition as tall as I did. The deeper landing also gives you a place to set your pots and casseroles, or pizza peel while you stare into your oven deciding where to place something. Christo uses his large landing to bake cookies on and I use it to keep stuff warm while other stuff cooks.
Keep checking out others threads and pics and you'll a good idea what you need,
