I think almost every single WFO build that uses fire brick has silica in it. Like I mention it is not an issue unless it become airborne and friable. Take it for what is worth. I am still placing my pizzas right on the bricks. A dust mask should suffice NIOSH 95 is standard and inexpensive for your build. I used when grinding with an angle grinder.

Right. So resp masks should be worn, but will it be safe to cook in? Put food right ontop of?

IMO, Alumina is not the biggest health concern but rather crytalline silica which is usually the compliment component in brick composition, IE 80 alumina/20 silica. Silica can cause silicosis which is similar to asbestos related health issues. Like Gulf say, use safety respiratory prudence when cutting and grinding the bricks when the material becomes friable. I found a similar MSDS on the quartz sand I used for my home brew. Take it for what it is worth. Good luck.

Like Gulf said OUCH. My bricks were similar in alumina so be prepared for going through the diamond blades. I went through 12 blades, although cheaper ebay ones, still alot of blades. One ebay you can buy in bulk for about $13 each for 10"

Yes, they were made in Sacramento

Those would be muddox. Pacific clay is however cheaper

Don't breathe the dust of any masonry product wether it be mortar or a brick being cut. Even asbestos was fairley safe until it was abraided to the dust stage. You will probably find a similar MSDS for just about any masonry product.

To be honest I never looked at the spec's on the brick I used. I am not alone, there are quite a few people here that used the same product as I did. Doesn't make it right, just means we are all going out together (maybe).

Ya im not really picky but i just wanted to make sure, it may be a general disclaimer. I didnt get any answer for the manufacture, they should be closed by now. Ill try tomorrow. I hope its nothing bad.

BTW did you use Pacific Clay? Muddox?

I looked through the data sheet and it looks nasty to me. Maybe it's a standard disclaimer but I would wait until someone in the industry chimes in.

80% Alumina, Ouch! I believe that I could have finished my oven with just one blade had I not have tried to cut a 70+ alumina rotary lime kiln brick for my retainer wall .

So its tough stuff? If you guys read the PDF the warnings and health concerns that it brings up worries me? Are these Aladin 80 brick toxic? and should not be used in a Pizza oven? or is it just a typical brick. Im sorry guys, i would really appreciate some feedback. Thanks.

They look alot like the bricks I used in my build which were 9 x 5.875 x 3 which I cut in half and used on my dome and arch. Look at my picture log.

Deffinetly nice build, Your bricks have some stamping too..
