  • Can I use red bricks instead of firebricks?

    Hi,

Just caught a bug - called pizza oven! So now I really want to build a Pompeii oven. I love cooking and I love doing DIY brickwork. An oven couldn't be a better idea to do!

However I find firebricks to be quit expensive here in UK, and wondered if it would be possible to use recycled red bricks at all, if I can find some hard ones. It would save me around ?200.

    Many thanks in advance.

Don't use wire cut bricks that have holes in them, use solid bricks. It is also well worth using firebricks for the floor. If you use solid reds here, loose stack them so they can be easily replaced when they eventually fail.
Kindled with zeal and fired with passion.

Check out thread by "bookemdanno" he is from the UK and I believe he used solid reds with his floor coming from an old heater.
