  • Winter Prep

I have a Primavera 70 oven that will be going thru its first Iowa winter. What do I need to do to protect it? How can I cover/winterize it so that I can still get to it and cook when the weather is cooperating?

    Thanks for the help!!!

I would build a steep roofed shed or an A frame over it .

Mark - I have a dome and do nothing for the winter. If I know we are going to get horizontal rain I may put a piece of tile over the vent, but that is just to keep the soot from mucking up the hearth entry.

No - I think he gets snow, rain, and freezing temps. May get a little more than us but cold is cold.

After your post I looked up the preciptation averages for both of your areas, and you are right. But, actually (with my origional post) I was thinking about what would keep the oven dry and the cook . Down here, we just think of keeping dry. In the few months of winter that we have we just put on long sleeves .

Where we live is a temperate climate, I had a good friend visit from tropical Cairns some years ago, while he was here visiting he had to buy his first pair of long pants ever...

If he was from Cairns it would not be uncommon if his only footwear was thongs! (read flip flops)

If he called Cairns home then his first trip to Melbourne would have been a treat. My best memory of my first visit to Melbourne was the Vic Markets. Never saw a tub of sheep eyes until then. An amazing place. It was the equal of any other food markets I have seen anywhere.

No doubt you sent him home with an umbrella, sun hat, blizzard jacket and a resolve to never live south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
                Cheers ......... Steve
